Our gig at Sutliff Cider was so much fun! It cooled off just enough to be enjoyable and the crowd and the cider were great! Thanks to Scott and staff.
We had a great time jamming and performing at the Bluegrass and Old Time Country festival at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Marengo last Friday and Saturday. Fine Line Bluegrass and Sleepy Hollow bands were there on Friday night as well as Dean, Don and me from the Riverbottom Ramblers. Our jammer friends from Marengo, Belle Plaine and Huxley, Iowa were there and performed as well. Great food - very clean facilities. I hope this festival will grow year by year, and it will if we all support it.
We were so sad to hear of our friend Terry Steele's passing on August 3rd. We enjoyed jamming with him and his banjo many times. We knew his health wasn't the best, but he died way too young. Hope he took a banjo along with him. Reminds me of a song ...
~~~~~
The Bluegrass Prayer
Oh Lord can I ask you a favor,
And I hope that its not so wrong,
But Lord when you call me to heaven,
Can I bring my ole banjo along.
Chorus:
Will there be any bluegrass in heaven?
Will there be any banjos around?
Oh Lord it would be nice if they're in Heaven.
To have that beautiful bluegrass sound.
Oh Lord I'd like a little place in heaven.
A place where all could come and gather round.
A place where my loved ones and my neighbors,
Could share that beautiful bluegrass sound.
Chorus
Rest in peace, friend!
July 23 and 24 gigs
UPDATE - THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE AMBULANCE CREW BEING BUSY HELPING WITH WINDSTORM CLEANUP.
Patsy asked us if we would be willing to play for a benefit - Belle Plaine Ambulance Sweet Corn Festival - if we got a free meal. Since we like to eat, we said YES! Come on down to Franklin Park in Belle Plaine on Saturday, June 23rd to hear Don, Dean and I plus some friends play bluegrass and support the ambulance service by EATING! I think we will be playing around 4 to 6 p.m. or after.More bad luck with tires on our van. We were camped at the Kalona Bluegrass Festival, getting packed up and ready to head home and Don says, "ANOTHER flat tire". Luckily Rusty was there to haul the tire and Don into town for fixing. Thanks, Rusty!
Also, thanks once again for First Pres in CR for having us play for their worship in the park. Mighty fine potluck too!
Hannan Lake
Thanks to the folks at Hannan Lake for the wonderful meal following our performance on July 4th! Bad luck on the way home ... we had a blowout on our van. Luckily Dean was right behind us and stopped to help out.
